Don't Throw It Away!

Don't know what to do with old stuff? Want to get rid of it, but don't want to have a yard sale? Hate to throw it away, but don't know anyone who can use it? Try these places first!!!!!

The ASK Clinic in Fort Wayne will accept donations of empty medication bottles.
The ASK clinic is open Tues 8:30 to noon and Thursday 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. They are located at 2513 S. Calhoun Street. ASK is a free-clinic that relies on volunteers and donations from the public. Most prescribed medications are donated by pharmaceutical companies. ASK has a medications center, psychiatrists, an OBGYN center, heart center, and a diabetics center. There's also a nurse that conducts HIV/AIDS testing twice a month. ASK opened in 2002 and is an acronym based on Matthew 7:7 in the Bible: “Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.”

The Allen County SPCA works to find new homes for animals. The ACSPCA does not euthanize animals, and therefore has limited space to take in new animals in need of a good home. Donations & volunteers are always needed and welcomed. ACSPCA is not funded by any city, state, or federal grants.
The ACSPCA needs:
* Gift cards from any home improvement store, WalMart, Meijer, Target, and Office Depot.
* Cash, charge and check donations
* Paper towels (we can never have too many!)
* 39 gallon, heavy duty trash bags
* Toilet paper

What is Freecycle? It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free, and everything posted must be FREE, legal and appropriate for all ages. To view the items being given away or sought, you must be a member of the local group - all you need is a Yahoo account!

I personally have given away an old air conditioner that had been sitting in my attic for 5 years (and I wasn't sure if it worked), lots of old books, clothes, candles, yarn, curtains, old bath fixtures, roses from my yard, a bag of non-expired food from the pantry that I wasn't going to eat, an old car repair CD, videotapes, my house plants that were dying, and lots of other stuff. I have received 500 bricks, an old rowing machine, roofing tar paper, and a few other odds and ends. You truly never know what someone else will take off your hands, or what they're wanting to get rid of that you might need. It's a great way to clean out your garage or attic and not just throw it all away. Give it a try!
